My wife told me she read an article that said office workers (me) should get up out of their seats regularly to avoid health problems.

Thankfully, by the time I walk to the coffee machine, get my coffee, and walk back to my office ... I’ve already finished my coffee so I go back for more.

Repeat this process several times over the course of the day and you’ll understand what I mean when I say I drink coffee in lieu of water.

Once when discussing hydration with a doctor, she said coffee counted as water. I was very happy.

Of course, she was a speech pathologist, so her expertise may be suspect.

I often end up running up and down the 18 0 or so feet of the production building to discuss things with people at the front offices, go to the bathroom, or try to iron out Things That Should Not Be on the floor. The coffee, OTOH, is about 15 feet away.

My argument to the naysayers goes something like this:

I’ve found a health article (at least one, so it counts!) saying coffee does not dehydrate you, contrary to popular belief .

That point made, I then remind them that since coffee is at least 80% water - when I drink 10 cups of coffee a day (true story) I’ve effectively drank 8 cups of water!

I mean, it’s simple science!

Nesspresso is where it’s at, I can look down my nose at all you Keurig pheasants while sipping my super fancy coffee from recyclable pods (then promptly throw them in the trash anyway)

It’s more about the effect produced on a “need coffee” kind of day. Like I say to people, k-cup “coffee” (black) at work, actual brew coffee with additives when drinking coffee recreationally.

“How do you drink coffee at work?” “It doesn’t matter because I’m not drinking it for enjoyment there”.

It’s roast bean flavored spite juice with caffeine I sometimes need to get through the day; no harshin’, man.

I suspect the magic dehydrated booze future has some compromises. T here are likely enough shitty “real” bars out there that they could present almost anything with their claim - so I assume mediocre/applebees is a safe threshold.

I’m not a coffee snob, but I do use a burr grinder and a pour over style machine. It makes a pretty dang decent cuppa.

M y main experience with a Keurig is when we stay at my parents’ “lake” (actually the Chesapeake Bay) house. My mom uses those refillable K-cups with pre-ground Trader Joe’s coffee. To get a big mug of something that’s not just brown water I use 2 of the damn things on the smallest “shot” setting on the machine to go into one mug, and it’s still not very good. All of that isn’t even any more convenient than just brewing a damn pot of real coffee at my house.

So... I bring coffee to work from home. If I need more of a caffeine buzz I have a vacuum tumbler where I use this stuff with water from the cooler .

Since my Caffeine Requirements(tm) are highly situational and whether I need a cuppa-or-substitute at 8:30 or not until 12:00 if at all kind of depends, I haven’t engaged in any pre-brewing strategy. Since I’m cheap and I can call for it on demand, and it’s something warm in the stomach... eh. The Members Mark French Roast brews out thicker than brown water on 10oz, “strong” setting, so it’s functional... and better than Donut Shop and some of the other gimmicky brands, for some reason. Bad in a different way than the all-day Bunn stuff from elsewhere in the building.

Gotta say the Mio may be an attractive option in future, though.

I periodically go on no-coffee “I can quit anytime I want” jags of a couple days to a week at a time. Some weeks really need it, more than others.

Woooo, lot of heat on the Keurig. The missus and I got rid of ours because we consume more than a cup at a time. So we got the nice 12 cup pot that satisfies us. Otherwise, it does the job of producing hot bean water.

Are there more efficient way of brewing coffee? Yup.

Are the other ways that produce a better quality product? Yup.

I see coffee as more of a supplement than a beverage. Consume for caffeine.

My company set all the coffee machines to free (instead of the normal $.10) for the holiday season this week. I usually make coffee to bring in, but I’ve been guzzling free trash coffee from the machine instead.

“Oh God...this is awful. Hmm. My cup is empty. Better get some more.”

Yeah, I’ve been in full “mmm, wretched trash coffee - apply directly to forehead” mode for a while, because the company buys the k-cups.
